Conference and Web Cast Summary: The NCOFF Roundtable, Constructing and Coping
with Incarceration: Perspectives from the Field, took place November
15 and 16, 2001. Presenters and
participants discussed many of the emerging issues at the intersection
of father incarceration and responsible fathering, family support, and
child welfare. NCOFF hopes that the discussion will lead researchers,
practitioners, and policymakers to investigate approaches that address
the complexities of presence, absence and The Roundtable also featured NCOFF's first use of live broadcasting via the Internet. The web-cast proved to be a successful way of including a broader array of participants in the Roundtable, particularly practitioners who would otherwise be unable to attend. Participation was reported as far away as Alaska and Nebraska. A number of online viewers watched the entire roundtables proceedings and e-mailed questions or comments, which were read to the group. NCOFF is interested in receiving viewer's comments regarding the web cast. The video files from the Roundtable WEB CAST are now available for viewing! The five videos that encompass all live web cast are now available for you to see. To view these files, the requirements remain the same as those for the live event. See the Instructions & Requirements section. The video of the Dinner Panel, is now available as well! This presentation was not web cast during the Roundtable. It features a lively discussion by two experts in the field: Dr. Samuel Myers of the Wilkins Center on Human Relations and Social Justice at the University of Minnesota and Mr. Jeremy Travis of The Urban Institute. The closing comments were given by William Spriggs of National Urban League. NCOFF is continuing the Roundtables discussion by hosting an online discussion forum beginning on December 4 and lasting until December 21, 2001. During the first six days, we will post information and questions related to practice. During the next six, we will do the same for research. During the final six days, we will tackle policy. This forum is a moderated, private group. A summary of the discussions will be available in January 2002. We thank you for your participation and support of NCOFF's new media presentations.
